Among the orthogonal grid of Matosinhos Sul, the project for the multifunctional museum of the city stands out as a singular piece inserted
in a post-industrial context characterized by the monofunctionality of the large factories left by the canning industry. Relying on both its
physical scale and the relevance of its eminently public use, the building, a carefully delapidated gemstone, does not seek to replicate the
rules that govern the surrounding area. By the opposite, it seeks for a deliberately distance, imposing new alignments to the city and creating
less rigid spaces open to flexibility. Spaces oriented to an informal way of occupation that are compressed and then spread in both directions
- plan and section - extending from the interior of the distribution spaces to the outer square and the urban life.
Por entre a malha ortogonal de Matosinhos Sul, o projecto para um museu polifuncional para a cidade destaca-se como peça singular que é
dentro de um contexto pós-industrial marcado pela monofuncionalidade das grandes unidades fabris da indústria conserveira. Confiando na
imponência da sua escala física e funcional, de índole eminentemente pública, o edifício, uma pedra preciosa cuidadosamente delapidada,
não procura mimetizar as regras que pautam a envolvente próxima, mas distanciar-se deliberadamente impondo novos alinhamentos que
buscam a definição de espaços menos rígidos e mais flexíveis. Espaços orientados para um modo de estar informal, que se comprimem e se
distendem em planta e em corte, e se estendem do interior dos espaços de distribuição à praça exterior e à vida urbana.
